Artist's Comments

This is a new approach to oils, for the ones who have been watching me for long.

Restricted Palette- only 4 colors + white used

-it's the first painting done in the Oil Media Exploration class, the first oil class ever...the first painting class in college...first supervised american painting...and so on.

It is completely the opposite ofwhatever I believe the benefits of using oil paint should be. still, i learned a whole lot!

Sometimes you have to go backwards to move forwards in your painting. I think they probably want you to learn all the fundamentals before you go exploring on your own. It will be a good challenge for you. This looks very nice. I love your other stuff too!

Thank you! You are perfectly right, but I know that is why i am here as well. It's just hard to face a sudden aversion for still life, even if I loved this one. It was tough to use only 4 colors though

How long did it take? Nice colors for only having four. That hat is cool.

oh it took a whole lot! I oculdn't tell though. But mainly because the surface is very thin...I am used to think painting, so it was very hard for me.
